Gestalt Therapy is one of the primary approaches I use for doing counseling (along with EFT). It also provides the guiding framework for all of the other approaches I use in my work.

Gestalt Therapy has helped me to become very sensitive to a client's internal psychological process. What are the underlying needs that the person has and how is s/he stopping him/herself from fullfilling them? In other words, what are the internal obstacles that are getting in the way of getting what is wanted? This has been an invaluable background in support of being more effective in my EFT practice.

The following link will give you more information about Gestalt Therapy theory and practice.

Gestalt Therapy: An Introduction

This is an excellent, approximately 30 page description of the theory and practice of Gestalt Therapy. It starts out a little slow in the beginning, but gets very interesting as you proceed. It is probably the best encapsulation of Gestalt Therapy around.
